Baby Shower Manicure

babyshower001

My best friend’s baby shower was Sunday, so I thought I’d do my nails up to celebrate! This is three coats of Girly Bits Twitterpated, a light purple holographic polish with an awesome pink-purple shimmer. Over that, I stamped the little heart and baby bottles from Bundle Monster plate BM-307 with Konad Special White polish. On my ring finger, I stamped a background from Bundle Monster plate BM-310 with Konad Special White polish and topped that with an owl with Bundle Monster plate BM-309 and Konad Special Black polish.

You can see the holo a bit better in the above, blurry photo.

Hoser (the best friend in question) is decorating her daughter’s room in lavender and owls, so I thought I’d be cute and matchy-matchy.

Congrats Hoser!

Easter Manicure with stamping and holo goodness!

2013easter001

I know it’s pretty dang close to Easter, but here’s my Easter manicure anyway! This started out with a couple coats of OPI Fly topped with Girly Bits Hocus Pocus– an awesome holo top coat! I’ve done this combo before, which you can see here (dang I used to keep my nails a lot longer, lol!)

I then used Konad plate M79 and white Konad Special Polish to stamp on the dots. I could have done it with a nail dotting tool, sure, but then it would look super janky on my right hand. This is my preferred method when I want dots like this in just one colour. Of course, I needed some Easter flare, so I added a bunny coming out of an Easter egg from Bundle Monster plate BM-302 with black Konad Special Polish.

Here’s a low quality indoors shot to see some more of the holo action I have going on. Aw yeahh!

What are you wearing on your nails this Easter?

Girly Bits P.S. I Love You – Hot Shot

gbhotshot001

Girly Bits polishes are fantastic and Hot Shot from their P.S. I Love You collection is no exception! This is a hot pink holo that is opaque in two coats. The holo in this is strong, but not as strong as Twitterpated. Still super holo and very noticeable, though!

gbhotshot002

This is what I would consider a Barbie pink– not necessarily eyebleedingly neon pink, but still bright.

gbhotshot003

A little indoors action.

And here’s a shot (hah!) of what Hot Shot looks like when the light catches it just right and you can’t see any of the holo goodness. Ah, the perils of cloudy winter days! In somewhat related good news, my husband it putting one of those photo light boxes together for me, so hopefully that will help capture holo better on these nasty days!

You can purchase Girly Bits from the following e-tailers: Harlow & Co, Llarowe, Overall Beauty, Foxy Fingers, Femme Fatale Cosmetics, and Mei Mei’s Signatures. The Girly Bits store also has a limited quantity.

Girly Bits P.S. I Love You – Twitterpated

gbtwitt001

When Pam from Girly Bits released her P.S. I Love You collection, I instantly fell in love with this purple. Of course, when I went to swatch it, we ended up with a couple days of cloudy weather. Doesn’t really help me to capture the holo and shimmer in this beauty. Twitterpated is a light purple holo, and it’s a STRONG holo– think China Glaze OMG collection type of holo. This is three coats. Dry time is about average and it goes on very smooth.

gbtwitt002

Girly Bits Twitterpated is more than a light purple holo. There’s this gorgeous pink shimmer in it. I took this photo outside and you can kind of get a sense of it. The polish absolutely glows on the nail! This shimmer reminds me a lot of her Arctic Sunrise polish from the Slapdash collection.

I’ll be back soon with swatches the other two polishes in this collection (let’s hope I get some sun!) so stay tuned!

Icy Blue Snowflake Manicure… take two!

gb_snow001

I wanted to do another take on the snowflake manicure that I so love, and while picking out polishes I remembered a combo Ashesela from Art Evolve did a while back– Girly Bits Arctic Sunrise with Girly Bits Hocus Pocus on top. It’s a gorgeous combo!

gb_snow002

After that awesome combo was thrown down (and please excuse my inability to capture any of the holo goodness– there was lots of it, but we’ve been suffering from some cloudy snowy weather lately) I stamped on the full nail snowflake pattern from Bundle Monster plate BM-323 with Konad Special White polish.

I would have never thought to try this combo, so mad props to Ashesela! What are some of your favourite unexpected layering polishes?

Sally Hansen Nail Prisms Golden Tourmaline

Oh Nail Prisms, how I love you so! This is Sally Hansen Nail Prisms Golden Tourmaline, three coats of it. Golden Tourmaline is a raspberry pink holo, and as per usual I suck at capturing the true holo nature of this polish. I always put off getting this one (not necessarily “put off,” but “didn’t go out of my way to purchase,” I suppose) but I’m glad I finally got it!

I seem to concentrate on the duochrome portion of the Nail Prisms, but the holo polishes are also awesome. I wonder if Sally Hansen was the first brand to release duochromes and/or holo polishes?

Just lovely! This is an unusual polish for me to wear– more work-friendly than I usually go into work with (I typically stick to blues and lots of nail art) but for someone who cares about that type of thing, it’s definitely an everyday wearable polish. The only downside is that, like most older polishes, this took forever to dry.

What do you think of Nail Prisms? I’m on my way to catchin’ em all!

Icy Snowflake Manicure

I love blue snowflake manicures, so I got out a bunch of icy colours and decided to try my hand at them. This is two coats of Soulstice Spa Montery, a gorgeous dusty blue. On top of that I sponged Girly Bits Hocus Pocus, which is a holo topcoat polish, on the top 3/4 of the nail. On top of THAT I just blobbed on some Milani Diamond Dazzle. I love me some Milani polishes and Diamond Dazzle is a glitter gradient fiend’s best friend!

After all that was dry, I got out my Konad plate M59 and Bundle Monster plate BM-319 and went stamp crazy with the snowflake stamps, Konad Special White Polish, and Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Silver sweep.

Phew! It sounds like a lot of work, but it really wasn’t!

I did a similar manicure last year, but feel I stepped up my game this time around;) And holy crap how long were my nails! I usually don’t let them get quite that long anymore.

What do you think? Do you have some icy snowflake manicures to share?

Festive Holiday Nails

Here’s a simple manicure that’s perfect for the holidays! This is two coats of Soulstice Spa Venice, which is a gorgeous metallic champagne gold colour. This goes on like buttah! Actually, all of the Soulstice Spa polishes I’ve tried have gone on like buttah. Gorgeous. Anyway, on top of that I put on two coats of Lynnderella Happy HoloDaze. Happy HoloDaze has red and green round and square bits of glitter in varying sizes, as well as larger holographic silver glitter pieces, all in a clear base. If you’re lucky enough (which I was not), you may even get a piece of holo silver bar glitter. I wish this was more dense (er, denser?) with the bar glitter. Maybe it’s just because I’ve been loving bar glitter so much lately (or visiting The Scholarly Nail and Polished Claws Up so often lately… either way… moar bar glittah!

What colours do you like to wear on your nails during the holidays?

DIY Holo with OPI Fly

I really enjoy holo topcoats– it’s an easy and inexpensive way of making any ol’ polish into a bam-in-yo-face holographic polish. Take for instance OPI Fly from the Nicki Minaj collection. Fly is one of my favourite OPI polishes– a gorgeous bluey-teal. I’d wear this alone, sure, but why? I can holo this up!

This is two coats of OPI Fly with one coat of Girly Bits Hocus Pocus. The holo top coat lightens the colour of Fly (and well, any colour you’d wear it over, it’s just how it is) but it’s still a bright, fun colour.

What are some of your favourite colours to holo-ify?

Triumphant Return of the Glitter Gradient Manicure!

Well, I don’t know if it’s necessarily a triumphant return, but I haven’t done a glitter gradient in what feels like forever, so here you go!

I did this one up a little differently than usual. I started with OPI Tease-y Does It, and then used China Glaze GR8 and Bundle Monster plate BM-301 to stamp on a faux sponge effect. Usually I’d just sponge on some GR8 or whatever polish is my middle polish in a gradient manicure, but this stamp is such a good substitute that I needed to try it out. I then blobbed on some China Glaze Medallion for that blang-blang!

How does the stamp compare to just sponging on polish? Well, it saves you money on sponges I guess. You’re probably using just as much polish considering what you have to clean away from the stamp and the polish you scrape off the plate. Either is fine. I found that the stamp didn’t transfer that well to the very tips of my nails, but that’s probably just because they’re getting long again and I suck at distributing enough pressure.
