Quickie Konad Manicure: Blue Leopard Nails

blueleopard

Recently, I picked up OPI No Room for the Blues. It’s a lovely medium blue (I was hoping for a lighter colour when I bought it, damn you fluorescent beauty shop lighting!) but it’s still an awesome colour that I’m glad I picked up! I was excited to use it, so onto my nails it went almost immediately. But then… what do I pair it with? I can’t just wear a colour with no pizazz over it, can I?

Welp, the answer was no. So using Konad plate M57 and a fauxnad plate from Ninja Polish, K01 for the accent nail with some Konad Special Black polish, I came up with this! I love how the leopard spots look over the bright blue. The claw marks with the leopard spots shining through made for a nice accent.

Sticks n’ Stones or Concrete?

How appropriate that I could only photograph this manicure on a cloudy day? This is China Glaze Recycle with Cover Band Sticks ‘n Stones on top. I’ve been loving Sticks ‘n Stones over bright neon colours, but decided to change things up with a drab grey. Well, it’s not drab in a bad way, just you know… doesn’t make your eyes bleed with it’s neon-ness. The end result kind of reminds me of concrete with big ol’ rock chunks in it.

What’s your favourite way to wear Sticks ‘n Stones or any of the other black and white glitter polishes?

Quickie Konad: Sephora Moody Woman!

Another quickie for you guys– this is two coats of Sephora Collection Moody Woman, an awesome blue green metallic duochrome, stamped with Konad plate M64 and Konad Special Black polish.

This is my first time using the M64 plate and I really like this design. Kind of reminds me of those henna tattoos. What do you think?

Hallowe’en Nail Art Challenge – Ghosts!

Today’s nail art for the Hallowe’en Nail Art challenge are ghosts! This started off at two coats of Girly Bits Apparition over white (Sally Hansen Insta-Dri). I then drew little ghosts freehand over top with a black polish and a paint brush.

Well, before I added the ghosts, I slapped on a couple coats of some glow-in-the-dark polish from Sally’s:

I also found out that photographing glow-in-the-dark polish is really hard, haha! My camera was not havin’ it! In real life, this is much glowy-er and brighter.

And as a completely unrelated bonus– I found this while going through my SD card. I really love the Heartbreaker quad from Sugarpill. This is that quad and the highlight is likely a mix of Sugarpill Tako and MAC Brule. I rarely do bright makeup like this, so I thought I’d commemorate it!

Hallowe’en Nail Art Challenge – Tombstone!

I had a lot of fun with this one! Here is my take on a tombstone manicure– each nail is a different tombstone. I started with China Glaze Recycle as the base, then added in details with a black polish and toothpicks. On the tips, I sponged on some green polish (China Glaze Four Leaf Clover mixed with Nicole by OPI Daffy Dill), except on my middle finger where I sponged on brown (I didn’t have a non glitter/frosty brown so I mixed those two greens with a bit of red). The zombie arm on my middle finger is Nicole by OPI Daffy Dill with a little surprise over top…

That’s right– a little glow in the dark polish from Sally’s made this zombie arm pop!

Girly Bits Calendar Girls October – Howl at the Moon Nail Polish

Here’s some more Girly Bits for you! This is the October polish from her Calendar Girls line– Howl at the Moon. It’s an awesome black jelly filled with large, medium and microglitter all in gold. The black jelly base is really interesting, and something I might use for my first syrup manicure. While it looks black all built up (this is four coats, btw), the less layers, the more purple the base looks. It’s quite striking in real life!

You can purchase Girly Bits from the following e-tailers: Harlow & Co, Llarowe, Overall Beauty, and Mei Mei’s Signatures. The Girly Bits store is currently sold out of this shade, but check back and check out her other polishes!

Hallowe’en Nail Art Challenge – Spider Web!

I’m not usually one to toot my own horn (well, too much;)) but I really love how this manicure turned out! This was a coat of black (Nails Inc. Black Taxi), two coats of China Glaze Mummy May I, and Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Silver Sweep sponged on. The spider and web are both from the Bundle Monster BM13 plate.

Usually I’m terrified of spiders, but I’m okay with them on my nails. I scream and make my husband smash them dead. If he’s not around and I’m feeling particularly brave, I’ll just vacuum them up. I’ve been tempted to set the vacuum cleaner on fire afterwards, but it’s expensive replacing vacuum cleaners so often.

Hallowe’en Nail Art Challenge – Hallowe’en Pumpkin

It’s October first, which means two things– my husband is bringing up my Hallowe’en decorations from the basement finally AND it’s time for the Hallowe’en Nail Art Challenge!

October 1′s manicure is Hallowe’en Pumpkin. I started with painting my nails orange (Inglot 978) and stamping a pumpkin from Bundle Monster plate BM-222 with Konad Special Polish in Black. I added vines to my non-accent nails with a small brush and China Glaze Fortune Teller. I then dotted on Girly Bits Monster Mash and Crunchy Leaves to represent some glittery falling fall leaves.

Girly Bits Hallowe’en Polish in Fright Night

My Girly Bits swatchin’ series continues with another one of her Hallowe’en polishes– this two coats of Fright Night over black. Fright Night is a black jelly, and like Boo-berry I’m sure it would be opaque in 3-4 coats, but I prefer to stick to 2 coats over a creme black polish when it comes to black jellies. Fright Night is packed with red glitter of varying shapes and sizes– mostly hex shapes. The red glitter in a black base polish isn’t exactly a unique polish concept, but Pam’s added touch makes Fright Night unique– she’s added thin red bar glitter to the mix!

You can really see the dimension of this polish with multiple layers!

You can purchase Girly Bits from the following e-tailers, who will have the Hallowe’en polishes up soon! Harlow & Co, Llarowe, Overall Beauty, and Mei Mei’s Signatures. The Girly Bits store is currently sold out of this shade, but check back and check out her other polishes!

Girly Bits Candy Corn Hallowe’en Manicure

Wow! Girly Bits has released their Hallowe’en collection, and let me just say it’s pretty fantastic. My favourite has got to be Candy Corn! This is two coats of Candy Corn over black. Candy Corn is a very dense matte glitter– lots of white glitter in all different sizes, including bar glitter, as well as yellow and orange glitter. Such a cool combo! I figured showing this over black would be a good way to demonstrate how awesome this polish is while still maintaining a Hallowe’en-themed manicure. I got a ton of compliments on this when I wore it out and it’s so simple! So if you don’t want to be bothered with nail art for the fall, this polish is a pretty great cheat!

I have lots more Girly Bits coming up in the next couple days, so stay tuned! And if you’re interested in purchasing any, make sure you check out the Girly Bits store. It looks like a few of her polishes are sold out, but she does restock regularly.

EDIT: You can also purchase Girly Bits from the following e-tailers, who will have the Hallowe’en polishes up soon! Harlow & Co, Llarowe, Overall Beauty, and Mei Mei’s Signatures.
