Quickie Konad: Pink Candy Nails Manicure

Here’s a bright and obnoxious manicure for you today! This is two coats of NYX Advanced Salon in Hot Pink– this polish is pretty awesome and was almost opaque in one coat. I actually wanted this to be a jelly manicure, but after seeing that this polish was definitely not thin enough… well, I improvised! On top of the pink I have Claire’s Bedazzled, which is my favourite of my Deborah Lippmann Happy Birthday dupes. Over top of all that is Bundle Monster plate BM-306 stamped with Konad Special Polish in Black.

I’ve been rocking some short nails lately. I missed my shorter nails, which make it easier for me to type and write and not scratch the hell out of other people, but my long nails are so preeeetty, haha! I know I’m lucky in that they grow fast and they’re strong, so I’ll have my claws back in no time!

Clarins 230 + Femme Fatale Suspended Starlight = LOVE.

clarins_starlight001

In an attempt to buy less polish (and omg it’s working! I bought one bottle last month but it hasn’t arrived yet. A coworker gave me a polish on Monday that she didn’t care for, but I didn’t spend anything on it… this is getting SCARY) I’m getting more and more into layering random polishes.

clarins_starlight002

This started with two coats of Sephora My Favorite Jeans (kind of like Revlon Royal but less squishy-looking). I then added a coat of Clarins 230 (a.k.a. UNICORN PEE!) and ended with a coat of Femme Fatale Suspended Starlight. I LOVE Suspended Starlight, but the bummer thing is that you really have to fish for those star and moon pieces. I think this may either be discontinued or just out of stock on Llarowe, but I’d recommend picking up Revlon Celestial FX if you’re keen on recreating this manicure. I bought Celestial for my mom and did her nails with that a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised that I didn’t have to go fishin’ for glitter.

For some reason, and I’m not sure if it’s because I’m not having luck with lighting today or maybe the blue glitter is diminishing it, but I can’t seem to get the green shift of Clarins 230 to show up. I prefer the glowy red shift anyway, and think it looks awesome with the stars over the blue background. SO GLOWY.

What do you think? What’s your favorurite way to wear unicorn pee polishes?

Sailor Moon Nail Polish?!

smoon001

That’s right– Sailor Moon nail polish! Indie polish company Sonnetarium came out with a trio of Sailor Moon-inspired nail polishes. I picked the trio up for my best friend Hoser’s birthday earlier this month and snuck in a bottle of Daydreams & Moonbeams for myself. I’ve been too scared to try it out because I really wanted to surprise my friend! So here it is, finally! Sonnetarium Daydreams & Moonbeams!

This is one coat of Sonnetarium Daydreams & Moonbeams over two coats of Soulstice Spa Venice (a shimmery metallic gold). I wanted to put Daydreams & Moonbeams over another polish because it is quite sheer and to my delight Venice was the perfect underwear for it! The end result looks very similar to what I see in the bottle of Daydreams & Moonbeams!

Sonnetarium Daydreams & Moonbeams is chock-full of tiny red and yellow glitters, small/medium blue and yellow glitters, and red hearts. The best part– I didn’t have to go fishing for glitter. Having to fish out the larger glitter pieces is a nightmare in some polishes, but I kept picking up those heart pieces every other time I dipped the brush into the bottle. Hooray!

I picked up my Sonnetarium polishes from Beauty Pop Shop. I ended up getting on a waiting list there in December/January, so I’m not sure what the deal is there right now.

Kleancolor Nail Polish Swatches & Stamping!

kc

Big post today for you guys! I got a few Kleancolor polishes from My Wholesale Fashion.

kc001

First up is KleanColor Nail Polish K165 Metallic Sapphire. I pretty much have the same review for the three metallic polishes I tried out. I was impressed with how opaque they were– they’re all two coats, but were opaque in one. I like to do an extra coat because sometimes those big photos like to highlight all the flaws, jeez. I also found that these Kleancolor polishes dry very quickly! SUPER impressed! Two downsides though: I found these polishes stain and they smell very strong. I can get over the smell, that’s not an issue for me, but the staining was kind of a bummer. Also something I can get over because I always have my nails painted, but just a warning!

kc003

This is KleanColor Nail Polish K160 Metallic Orange.

kc005

And this is KleanColor Nail Polish K162 Metallic Yellow.

yarn001

The stamping abilities of these metallic polishes totally makes up for the staining, though! My stamper did get stained, so be warned, but I haven’t found it to be problematic. You usually have to be careful with stamping polishes because they will drag with topcoat, even when you think they’re dry. I applied topcoat over this almost immediately and there was NO dragging. That is amazing! And if you’re wondering, that’s the Kleancolor Metallic Sapphire over Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Brisk Blue and Vivid Lacquer nail plate VL 004.

kc002

The glitters I received were also great. This one is KleanColor Nail Polish K169 Grand Finale and it reminds me of those Revlon Street Wear polishes from the 90s. I absolutely love this polish! Silver holo bar glitter?! YES! I don’t have any bar glitter in my current collection, but I remember rocking it in the 90s! This is one coat over Kleancolor Metallic Sapphire.

kc004

Next up is KleanColor Nail Polish K195 Blind Date. This was also impressive– usually I find with chunky glitters like this, I have to “go fishing” to get the pieces of glitter that I want. Not the case here! This is two coats over Kleancolor Metallic Orange.

kc006

This might possibly be my favourite from the lot– KleanColor Nail Polish K191 Blue Eyed Girl. This is a blue jelly polish with large hex and small round glitters. This is two coats, which shows so much dimension! It’s like looking into a pond… a pond of glitter.

Bright Purple and Floam Gradient Manicure!

purplefloam001

I wasn’t joking when I said I loved China Glaze Creative Fantasy! Here’s three coats of that with a glitter gradient of Nail-Venturous (or Ninja Polish now? I don’t get this brand change, I just send them all my money) Floam! I brushed on one coat of Floam to the top 2/3 of my nail, then went back in with a second coat to the first 1/3 and then a third coat and just the tippy-tips. Floam never stays on the very edge of my nails, unfortunately. You can’t notice it in person, but I can tell. Probably a Seche Vite-related casualty.

What’s your favourite way to wear Floam? It’s such a neat nail polish! I’m curious about the other Floam incarnates, but I also don’t want to get tired of it, so maybe I should pass. Hmmm…

I Suffer From Nail Pattern Boldness…

npb_texas001

Isn’t that the greatest name for a nail polish– Nail Pattern Boldness? Maybe I’m too easily amused… at any rate, this is Nail Pattern Boldness Texas Tea, a polish exclusive to Llarowe, a fabulous polish distributor that I send a lot of my money off to.

npb_texas002

Texas Tea has black and holo glitters in a clear base, which reminds me of Models Own Mixed Up. EXCEPT, Texas Tea has blue and purple hex glitters buried in there, giving it a nicer blue look. This is one coat over a shiny medium blue– Lasenza Fiji Fantasy.

I think next time I might try this over a darker blue polish. What would you pair Texas Tea with?

China Glaze layering

creativecap001

One of the newer polishes I’ve picked up is China Glaze Creative Fantasy and I’ve been loving the heck out of it. On its own it’s gorgeous enough, but when you start putting sheer polishes on top? That’s what it really shines! This is three coats of China Glaze Creative Fantasy with one coat of China Glaze White Cap on top.

creativecap002

Have you picked up Creative Fantasy yet? What do you like wearing it with?

Fun with Girly Bits Apparition Nail Polish

aquaapparition001

I felt like having some fun with layering, I really like putting together different combos and seeing what works. A lot of the time… well, it doesn’t work! This time, I’m diggin’ it! This is a couple coats of China Glaze For Audrey with Girly Bits Apparition (from their Hallowe’en collection) on top. On my ring finger I added a coat of Girly Bits Indian Summer.

aquaapparition002

My husband built me a lightbox for my photos. I’m still getting used to it, and it needs another light on the top, but I thought I’d post this photo to show that you don’t really see the yellow bits in Apparition. The iridescent glitter shows up blue, but the camera always wants to capture it as yellow. WTF camera!

I’m hoping this lightbox will help me capture holographic and duo/multichrome polishes a lot better. I’ll still use natural sunlight for a lot of my pictures I’m sure, but I like having this option. It’s also going to come in handy for my other (non nail polish) projects like my 80s and 90s nostalgia site, Soap in the Bathroom!

It’s a (butterfly) Trap! China Glaze and Fauxnad Manicure

butterflytrap

Here’s a fun one! I’ve really been enjoying the butterfly wing stamping plates from Vivid Lacquer. I like using the larger one (VL 002) for my thumb and the smaller one (VL 004) for the rest of my nails.

This is two coats of China Glaze It’s a Trap-eze, which is possibly my favourite China Glaze polish of the moment. Holy crap. Over that I used Konad Special Polish in black to stamp on the butterfly wings. I used a dotting tool to fill in the circles with Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Silver Sweep and Girly Bits Hocus Pocus.

What do you think of butterfly wing manicures? Have you tried them? I’m glad Vivid Lacquer has put out these stamping plates because I definitely couldn’t do this freehand!

Girly Bits P.S. I Love You – A Mother’s Love

motherslove003

Here is the last polish from the Girly Bits P.S. I Love You collection– A Mother’s Love. This polish is chock full of gold and pink glitters– lots of pink hex and gold squares… oh, and PINK HEART GLITTER! The polish also has a gold shimmer, which really shines against a dark base. The above photo shows two coats of Girly Bits A Mother’s Love over black.

motherslove002

And here it is over Girly Bits Twitterpated! As with most (probably “all”, but that’s a big commitment to say!) polishes with large glitter bits, I did have to fish around to get those hearts on my nails. It didn’t take too long to get those hearts fished out and I found that once I found one heart the rest of them came out of the bottle quite easily. So the first one may be tricky, but when you find one it’s like a giant treasure trove of hearts. Or something.

motherslove001

Overall, the glitter combo in this polish is gorgeous. The gold and pink glitters together are mesmerizing in the bottle!

You can purchase Girly Bits from the following e-tailers: Harlow & Co, Llarowe, Overall Beauty, Foxy Fingers, Femme Fatale Cosmetics, and Mei Mei’s Signatures. The Girly Bits store also has a limited quantity.
