Bright Purple and Floam Gradient Manicure!

purplefloam001

I wasn’t joking when I said I loved China Glaze Creative Fantasy! Here’s three coats of that with a glitter gradient of Nail-Venturous (or Ninja Polish now? I don’t get this brand change, I just send them all my money) Floam! I brushed on one coat of Floam to the top 2/3 of my nail, then went back in with a second coat to the first 1/3 and then a third coat and just the tippy-tips. Floam never stays on the very edge of my nails, unfortunately. You can’t notice it in person, but I can tell. Probably a Seche Vite-related casualty.

What’s your favourite way to wear Floam? It’s such a neat nail polish! I’m curious about the other Floam incarnates, but I also don’t want to get tired of it, so maybe I should pass. Hmmm…

China Glaze layering

One of the newer polishes I’ve picked up is China Glaze Creative Fantasy and I’ve been loving the heck out of it. On its own it’s gorgeous enough, but when you start putting sheer polishes on top? That’s what it really shines! This is three coats of China Glaze Creative Fantasy with one coat of China Glaze White Cap on top.

Have you picked up Creative Fantasy yet? What do you like wearing it with?

Fun with Girly Bits Apparition Nail Polish

aquaapparition001

I felt like having some fun with layering, I really like putting together different combos and seeing what works. A lot of the time… well, it doesn’t work! This time, I’m diggin’ it! This is a couple coats of China Glaze For Audrey with Girly Bits Apparition (from their Hallowe’en collection) on top. On my ring finger I added a coat of Girly Bits Indian Summer.

aquaapparition002

My husband built me a lightbox for my photos. I’m still getting used to it, and it needs another light on the top, but I thought I’d post this photo to show that you don’t really see the yellow bits in Apparition. The iridescent glitter shows up blue, but the camera always wants to capture it as yellow. WTF camera!

I’m hoping this lightbox will help me capture holographic and duo/multichrome polishes a lot better. I’ll still use natural sunlight for a lot of my pictures I’m sure, but I like having this option. It’s also going to come in handy for my other (non nail polish) projects like my 80s and 90s nostalgia site, Soap in the Bathroom!

Unicorn Pee Creative Fantasy Manicure

clarinscreatfan001

Oh my unicorn peeeee! This is one of my favourite polishes, of course that’s the famous Clarins 230 giving off that omg glow and every colour of the rainbow goodness! It is hard to find, so I’ll preface this by saying that Girly Bits Shift Happens and Ninja Polish Divinity are affordable and accessible dupes. And Ninja Polish Divinity is opaque in two coats. TWO! I already have Shift Happens and Clarins 230, but it took every ounce of self control to not jump on Divinity. Augh!

clarinscreatfan002

So moving on… I see the unicorn pee line of dupes over Revlon Royal quite a bit. Heck, I’ve even done it! But after I picked up China Glaze Creative Fantasy, I knew I had to splash on some unicorn pee (okay, that was gross…) Creative Fantasy has this great bright glowyness to it, much like Revlon Royal, but in purple. I thought it would make a gorgeous base for unicorn pee, and yup, I was right!

clarinscreatfan003

I mean– just LOOK at that glow! The purple base with the glowing red shimmer? LOVE. IT.

clarinscreatfan006

And some glow in direct sunlight!

clarinscreatfan008

One of the hardest parts about photographing this polish is getting the green shimmer. Well, it’s more than just a green shimmmer– it’s a golden green, deep aqua green shimmer all at once. How is this polish even possible?! IT’S MAGIC.

And another poor photo of the major colour changing shift.

You need some unicorn pee in your life. If you already have unicorn pee, what do you like to wear it with?

It’s a (butterfly) Trap! China Glaze and Fauxnad Manicure

butterflytrap

Here’s a fun one! I’ve really been enjoying the butterfly wing stamping plates from Vivid Lacquer. I like using the larger one (VL 002) for my thumb and the smaller one (VL 004) for the rest of my nails.

This is two coats of China Glaze It’s a Trap-eze, which is possibly my favourite China Glaze polish of the moment. Holy crap. Over that I used Konad Special Polish in black to stamp on the butterfly wings. I used a dotting tool to fill in the circles with Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Silver Sweep and Girly Bits Hocus Pocus.

What do you think of butterfly wing manicures? Have you tried them? I’m glad Vivid Lacquer has put out these stamping plates because I definitely couldn’t do this freehand!

Naughty ‘n Nice Valentine’s Day Manicure

bpvday002

It’s less than a week until Valentine’s Day– do you know what manicure you’ll be wearing?

Well, here’s a naughty ‘n nice one for you to consider;) This started off with a coat of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Whirlwind White (R.I.P.) and over that I did a sponge gradient with Color Club Yum Gum, Raspberry Rush, and A Grape Big Kiss. My ring finger didn’t get any of that, though– it’s just two coats of China Glaze Ruby Pumps. I feel the need to mention that those Color Club polishes are scented, so my hands now smell like candy!

bpvday001

And then we got into the fun stuff– I used the Cute Dot Bowknot Heart Nail Art Stamp Template QA36 from the Born Pretty Store as well as the Stamping Polish and Stamper and Scraper in white and red for the pink nails. On my ring finger, I used the black stamping polish and made it look like a “naughty” corset! There’s a dotted line next to it, so after the image transferred onto the stamper, I just scraped that part off with my thumbnail so that it wouldn’t transfer to my nail.

I went in with some glitter (Milani Diamond Dazzle) to jazz those pink nails up a little more so they can compete with the glitter in Ruby Pumps. Overall, a really cute manicure to demonstrate your nice and naughty sides this Valentine’s Day!

Matte Burgundy and Flakie Goodness!

I haven’t done up any flakies or matte manicures for a while, which is a shame because flakies and matte polishes is one of my favourite nail polish trends! This is two coats of OPI Diva of Geneva and one coat of Essie Shine of the Times followed by a coat of China Glaze Matte Magic.

I love how Shine of the Time shifts from orange to gold to green. And while I do enjoy these types of flakies over black polishes, reds and burgundys really seem to make the colour shift pop more. The dulling effect of the matte polish makes the flakies stand out even more– it lightens the polish and then BAM! It’s like a bonfire on my nails!

What are your favourite polishes to top with flakies? What are some of your favourite ways to wear matte polish?

Glittery Butterfly Wing Manicure

glitbut001

This turned out to be a fun manicure! I’ve seen my fair share of butterfly wing manicures and I’m always blown away by them– especially the freehand ones. I do not have that kind of talent! But luckily for me, butterfly wing fauxnad stamps exist!

This started with a coat of purple (Soulstice Spa Montreal) and then two coats of China Glaze Glitter All The Way. I laugh whenever I see the name Glitter All The Way because I hear it in my head the way fake Arnold Schwarzenegger says “Jingle All The Way!” on Late Night With Conan O’Brien:

So uh, moving on… on top of that, I added a couple coats of Seche Vite to smooth the glitter (ALL ZEE WAY!) out. I then used my handy-dandy butterfly wing stamp (VL004 from Vivid Lacquer) and Konad Special Black Polish. I went in with a nail dotting tool and Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Whirlwind White (R.I.P. my discontinued friend) to fill in the little circles at the top of the butterfly wing pattern.

glitbut002

And there you have it! Butterflies, Conan, Arnold Schwarzenegger… this post had everything. Merry Christmas!:)

Sticks n’ Stones or Concrete?

How appropriate that I could only photograph this manicure on a cloudy day? This is China Glaze Recycle with Cover Band Sticks ‘n Stones on top. I’ve been loving Sticks ‘n Stones over bright neon colours, but decided to change things up with a drab grey. Well, it’s not drab in a bad way, just you know… doesn’t make your eyes bleed with it’s neon-ness. The end result kind of reminds me of concrete with big ol’ rock chunks in it.

What’s your favourite way to wear Sticks ‘n Stones or any of the other black and white glitter polishes?

Christmas Candy Cane Nails

Getting sick of the holidays yet? I sure hope not because I have another holiday-themed manicure for you:)

This obnoxious manicure alternates between China Glaze Ruby Pumps and ORLY Meet Me Under The Mistletoe. Over that I stamped on Bundle Monster plate BM20. The full nail stamps in the first Bundle Monster release are kind of slender– which is saying a lot because my nails/fingers aren’t all that big! But this sure beats trying to fiddle around with tape. I’ve tried everything and I still can’t get manicure tape to work for me. When I did a French Manicure for my wedding a couple years ago, I just free handed it with a Kiss nail art polish. No one was the wiser, muahahah! Still, I wish I could use manicure tape. I’ve tried many, and I suck at all of them.

What are you wearing on your nails this holiday season? Do you suck at nail tape, too? Leave a comment and help me feel better about myself, haha!;)
