Color Club Port-Folio duochrome Fauxnad manicure

port001

Over the last year or so, we saw major brands releasing duochrome polishes– finally! Some of them… well, “meh” comes to mind in describing them. Not quite as bright or awesome as a Sally Hansen Nail Prisms. There was one that really stood out– not only does it have a strong colour change, but it’s actually unique! I’m talking about Color Club Port-Folio, of course! This is two coats with some stampage on top!

port002

Color Club Port-Folio shifts from a gorgeous purple to a deep mint green. Of all the duochromes I own and have seen, I’ve never come across one quite like this. I didn’t even need to layer it over black to make this baby pop!

port003

And of course I can’t just wear plain polish. Over top is a fauxnad plate I picked up over at Ninja Polish, K01. This is stamped with Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Silver Sweep, which is one of my all-time favourite stamping polishes.

What do you think of Port-Folio? Do you own it? How do you like to wear it?

Kleancolor Nail Polish Swatches & Stamping!

kc

Big post today for you guys! I got a few Kleancolor polishes from My Wholesale Fashion.

kc001

First up is KleanColor Nail Polish K165 Metallic Sapphire. I pretty much have the same review for the three metallic polishes I tried out. I was impressed with how opaque they were– they’re all two coats, but were opaque in one. I like to do an extra coat because sometimes those big photos like to highlight all the flaws, jeez. I also found that these Kleancolor polishes dry very quickly! SUPER impressed! Two downsides though: I found these polishes stain and they smell very strong. I can get over the smell, that’s not an issue for me, but the staining was kind of a bummer. Also something I can get over because I always have my nails painted, but just a warning!

This is KleanColor Nail Polish K160 Metallic Orange.

kc005

And this is KleanColor Nail Polish K162 Metallic Yellow.

yarn001

The stamping abilities of these metallic polishes totally makes up for the staining, though! My stamper did get stained, so be warned, but I haven’t found it to be problematic. You usually have to be careful with stamping polishes because they will drag with topcoat, even when you think they’re dry. I applied topcoat over this almost immediately and there was NO dragging. That is amazing! And if you’re wondering, that’s the Kleancolor Metallic Sapphire over Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Brisk Blue and Vivid Lacquer nail plate VL 004.

kc002

The glitters I received were also great. This one is KleanColor Nail Polish K169 Grand Finale and it reminds me of those Revlon Street Wear polishes from the 90s. I absolutely love this polish! Silver holo bar glitter?! YES! I don’t have any bar glitter in my current collection, but I remember rocking it in the 90s! This is one coat over Kleancolor Metallic Sapphire.

kc004

Next up is KleanColor Nail Polish K195 Blind Date. This was also impressive– usually I find with chunky glitters like this, I have to “go fishing” to get the pieces of glitter that I want. Not the case here! This is two coats over Kleancolor Metallic Orange.

kc006

This might possibly be my favourite from the lot– KleanColor Nail Polish K191 Blue Eyed Girl. This is a blue jelly polish with large hex and small round glitters. This is two coats, which shows so much dimension! It’s like looking into a pond… a pond of glitter.

Sally Hansen Nail Prisms – Cinnabar & Quick Update

That’s right, it’s time once again for more Sally Hansen Nail Prisms goodness! Today I have two coats of Sally Hansen Nail Prisms Cinnabar over black.

Sally Hansen Nail Prisms Cinnabar shifts from purple to olive green. I was hoping I’d see more of a peach in it too, but it didn’t come out over black. I think I’ll need to try this one over white to see what happens. I’m guessing more of a peach-purple duochrome.

I was a little disappointed in this one, just because it reminds me so much of a darker version of Emerald Amethyst. Definitely going to need to try this one over different colours!

Still a beautiful colour, so I really can’t complain! What do you think?

And in other news, I’ve kind of been neglecting my nail polish blog a bit because I’ve been so busy with my 80s & 90s nostalgia site– we recently changed the name from Soap in the Bathroom (which makes no sense, but was a domain my friend and I had had for 15 years) to Pop Rewind (which makes 82% more sense). So if you’re a child of the 80s and 90s and want to re-live some of that, check out Pop Rewind!

Quickie Konad: Stars and… Cosmos!

cosmosstars001

I know you’ve seen all this before– this polish, this stamp, and this stamping polish. But you know what? All three of these things are my favourites, so you get subjected to them again;) This started with two coats of Picture Polish Cosmos, an amazing cerulean blue with a slight hint ‘o holo and some mini flakies. I wanted to amp it up and what better way to do that to a polish named Cosmos than with a Fauxnad stamping of stars!

cosmosstars002

This is Bundle Monster plate BM21 and Sally Hansen Insta-Dri polish in Silver Sweep. I love Silver Sweep, it’s one of my all-time favourite Insta-Dri polishes, which means it will probably be discontinued if it hasn’t been already. Silver Sweep stamps so clean that it blows my mind. This polish works better than the Konad special polishes. WHAT.

Another quickie. What do you think? Do you use Insta-Dris for stamping? What are some of your favourite stamping polishes?

Naughty ‘n Nice Valentine’s Day Manicure

bpvday002

It’s less than a week until Valentine’s Day– do you know what manicure you’ll be wearing?

Well, here’s a naughty ‘n nice one for you to consider;) This started off with a coat of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Whirlwind White (R.I.P.) and over that I did a sponge gradient with Color Club Yum Gum, Raspberry Rush, and A Grape Big Kiss. My ring finger didn’t get any of that, though– it’s just two coats of China Glaze Ruby Pumps. I feel the need to mention that those Color Club polishes are scented, so my hands now smell like candy!

bpvday001

And then we got into the fun stuff– I used the Cute Dot Bowknot Heart Nail Art Stamp Template QA36 from the Born Pretty Store as well as the Stamping Polish and Stamper and Scraper in white and red for the pink nails. On my ring finger, I used the black stamping polish and made it look like a “naughty” corset! There’s a dotted line next to it, so after the image transferred onto the stamper, I just scraped that part off with my thumbnail so that it wouldn’t transfer to my nail.

I went in with some glitter (Milani Diamond Dazzle) to jazz those pink nails up a little more so they can compete with the glitter in Ruby Pumps. Overall, a really cute manicure to demonstrate your nice and naughty sides this Valentine’s Day!

Busy Stamped Valentine’s Day Manicure

Here’s a quick one for you today. This started out as four coats of Girly Bits Jelly Shoes. I followed that up with Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Whirlwind White to stamp on some hearts from Bundle Monster plate BM-317. Then I went in with Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Rapid Red and stamped on some more hearts from the same plate. Ta-daaa!

This turned out a little busy, but I still think it’s cute!

Sally Hansen Nail Prisms Golden Tourmaline

Oh Nail Prisms, how I love you so! This is Sally Hansen Nail Prisms Golden Tourmaline, three coats of it. Golden Tourmaline is a raspberry pink holo, and as per usual I suck at capturing the true holo nature of this polish. I always put off getting this one (not necessarily “put off,” but “didn’t go out of my way to purchase,” I suppose) but I’m glad I finally got it!

I seem to concentrate on the duochrome portion of the Nail Prisms, but the holo polishes are also awesome. I wonder if Sally Hansen was the first brand to release duochromes and/or holo polishes?

Just lovely! This is an unusual polish for me to wear– more work-friendly than I usually go into work with (I typically stick to blues and lots of nail art) but for someone who cares about that type of thing, it’s definitely an everyday wearable polish. The only downside is that, like most older polishes, this took forever to dry.

What do you think of Nail Prisms? I’m on my way to catchin’ em all!

Quickie Fauxnad: Pantone Parachute Purple dupe-ish

Just a quickie today! This is my Sephora + Pantone Universe Parachute Purple dupe(ish)– two coats of Sally Hansen Insta Dri Vigorous Violet and two coats of Pure Ice Heartbreaker. Over that I used Bundle Monster plate BM-313 and Konad Special White polish. I think the pattern kind of looks like a giraffe (obviously not with this colouring though!) but my husband made a comment about turtles. Either way, it looks kind of neat and I still really like the purple with blue flash underneath!

Sally Hansen Vintage Hard as Nails Glitter/Diabetes Awareness mani!

Vintage Sally Hansen for Diabetes Awareness Day? Sounds like a good match to me!:) To raise awareness of Diabetes, the nail polish community is posting blue manicures today. You can read more about World Diabetes Day by clicking here.

Thanks to Jacqui over at The Scholarly Nail, I became obsessed with some gorgeous blue vintage Sally Hansen Hard as Nails glitters when she posted pics of her vintage stash. I so needed Magnet and Dimension in my life! Jacqui was awesome enough to let me know when an eBay seller popped up, so I scooped up both those polishes. And today I present Dimension!

PSA: Excuse my beat-up cuticles. These photos were taken in the middle of Hallowe’en Nail Art Madness. They’ve seen better days.

This is two coats over a royal blue (Sephora My Favorite Jeans). I originally tried building the colour by itself, but after five coats there was still visible nail line. Oh, and it would NOT dry. AT ALL. Even running my hands under cold water and putting Seche Vite on (after waiting a couple hours) this stuff was not setting up. I waited between coats, and still. Nothing. Even with two coats and a couple hours, this stuff would not set. I’m not sure if it’s because it’s an older polish or what. This polish hated me, haha! BUT I LOVE THIS POLISH. So I’ve forgiven it.

Do you have any of these older Sally Hansen polishes? I’m really getting into vintage polish (moreso than usual). Seriously, give me good indie polish (not just glitter dumped in a suspension base) and/or vintage polish and you have my heart. Yeah, it really doesn’t take much!

Sally Hansen Nail Prisms – South Sea Pearl

It’s been a while since I’ve posted any Nail Prism swatches, so I figured I’d better remedy that! This is one coat of Sally Hansen Nail Prisms in South Sea Pearl over white (Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Whirlwind White– and just to take a moment to talk about Whirlwind White: this is my favourite white polish EVER. I’m getting pretty low in my bottle, so I’ve been hunting for months for another one. The Insta-Dri line is alive and well, but every display I see is sold out of Whirlwind White. We’re talking multiple Zellers, Shoppers, Rexalls… where’s my Whirlwind White, dawgs? Is this getting discontinued? I’m tempted to stock up on eBay!)

So that was quite the tangent. Anyway, South Sea Pearl is a lovely sheer polish with a bluey-green shimery duochrome going on. It’s a bit difficult to capture, so I took a ton of photos in different lights.

I thought this one might be similar to one of those new Sally Hansen Lustre Shines, but after seeing swatches on Karen D.’s blog I see that NOPE, not the same.

More tangenty– do you have any of the Lustre Shine polishes? I’m really half-and-half on them. I mean, I always say in every Nail Prisms post that I want Sally Hansen to release some boss duochromes (dear Sally Hansen: more duo/multichromes plz!) but eh… kind of have those colours from other brands already. I might pick up Firefly if I ever find a display here, but that’s about it. What are you guys feeling?
