New Essie Starry Starry Night Dupe Comparison Post

As you probably already know, Essie re-released their Starry Starry Night nail polish (or is in the process of re-releasing it. The street date is January 5, but it’s been up for pre-order everywhere. I got mine shipped already from Nail Polish Canada, but it’s sold out right now. Helpful of me, I know).

There’s been comparison swatches between the New Starry Starry Night and the Original Starry Starry Night if you want to check those out. I don’t have the Original, so we’re just dealing with dupes for the new one.

So as you’ve seen above, the Essie Retro Revival Starry Starry Night is not the same as the original Starry Starry Night. I don’t have any of the issues with the formula that others have had, though (maybe theirs were press samples and not the one that went out to retailers? I have no idea).

But enough of that… let’s get down to what you’re really here for– an update of Continuing My Essie Starry Starry Night Nail Polish Dupe Search.

I pulled out six Essie Starry Starry Night dupes from my collection. Some are much closer than others. These are all three coats.

I started my swatches with:

Index: LynBDesigns Time and Relative Dimension in Space
Middle: New Essie Starry Starry Night
Ring: Nail Gear Scandal
Pinkie: Picture Polish Cosmos

Just from the bottles, I thought the New Starry Starry Night would be a decent dupe for Nail Gear Scandal, my all-time favourite nail polish of… all time. The Retro Revival Essie Starry Starry Night is actually a lot closer to LynBDesigns Time and Relative Dimension in Space, but a lot more vibrant. Cosmos has a scattered holo effect going on, not so much on the glitter, but figured I’d include it anyway.

Next up:

Index: Picture Polish Orbit
Middle: New Essie Starry Starry Night
Ring: Colors by Llarowe Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
Pinkie: Sally Hansen Dimension (ok, I did five coats of this one)

CbL Twinkle Twinkle Little Star is the closest to an exact dupe to the Original Essie Starry Starry Night that I’ve seen (and if I’m wrong, please let me know. I’d love to add even more Starry Starry Night dupes to my collection). I wouldn’t consider any of these dupes of the new Starry Starry Night.

Overall, I’m impressed with the Retro Revival Essie Starry Starry Night. Sure, it’s not like the original, but the jelly finish gives the polish a lot of depth. Just look at how those bits of glitter change colour with each coat. It dried in okay time, about the regular Essie time from my experience with them. And it’s a blue glitter polish, and you know I’m all about that.

Dupe of original Essie Starry Starry Night = CbL Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
Dupe of new Essie Starry Starry Night = LynBDesigns Time and Relative Dimension in Space
Best Overall = Nail Gear Scandal (sorry, totally biased, haha!)
